High Pitch sound out of Television...

Ok i'm new to this board so bear with me here...My girlfriend bought me a Panasonic 27' Tau Flat Screen TV just recently...I'm having a problem with the set though, I hope someone can help me out here:

Ok so when the TV volume is low, at night so i don't wake anyone up, I hear this high pitch sound emiting from the BACK of the TV, not the speakers. It's sooooo annoying, I'm not sure what it is, but in order to watch tv at a low volume without being driven insane by the high pitch sound, I have to turn on my computer, or fan to overpower the noise.

This is a Panasonic TV, which i've been reading is a great brand of Television. Please someone help me, I really don't want to take it back, but if that's the only option, I guess I can deal...

Thank you!

You weren't by chance watching Return Of The King, and the scene were the Witch King flies over, did you?

What you are hearing is the horizontal sweep circuit. It produces a 15 KHz tone if the deflection yoke windings aren't secure. There isn't much you can do about it.

Mine makes kind of the same noise. After a while you won't notice it.

Well, there is, but it's a pain. What you do is remove the yoke and coat it with laquer sealant. This will prevent the wires from vibrating. Let it dry for a couple days and then reinstall it. You will probably have to reset the convergence as well.

Or learn to live with it which is what I would do.

You could just replace the set as being defective and hope you get a quieter one.

Sounds like a plan. That would drive me crazy.

Yeah, that seems like the thing to do...I'm really at my wits end with that. There was another problem with the set, but i fixed it by connecting my dvd player and tv with S-Video. The brightness would flicker whenever there was more blacks than whites on the screen....But that noise that comes out of the back is really loud...it's piercing at times. and it's not a continuous pitch, it comes in and out...So my best bet would be to replace it eh? How possible would it be to have someone fix it, rather than switch it out for another set?

Unless you had some kind of in-house warranty (which is probably not the case since it's only a 27"), I would say you might be in a problematic situation. However, the manufacturer might have a process where they will have someone come to your home. But then again, a 27" television is on the fence when it comes to in-home repairs.

Here's some info for you:

Enter in model# and your zip code to find nearest service center: http://www.pasc.panasonic.com/WhereT...cer.asp?Pass=1

thank you so much! I will use that resource if Best Buy won't help me fix it up. Thanks again all of you!
