advice/reviews of small (~26") widescreen sets?

We're probably going to be in the market for a new tv soon. For several reasons we're looking primarily at small widescreen sets.

1) we watch DVDs 2-3 times as much as we watch cable tv
2) our living room is not particularly large
3) we'd like to spend in the neighborhood of $500-$600

Good 27" 4:3 sets are very cheap right now, but since most of our viewing is in widescreen, it seems to make more sense to get a 16:9 set and not have to deal with squeeze modes, etc. Also, a 26" widescreen set is much lighter, less bulky than a 27" tv, with a wider picture. I don't admit it much around here, but our tv is currently 20", so a 26" widescreen would seem HUGE :>

I'm less concerned with hdtv tuner issues since we're not likely to watch much over the air tv.

I haven't found many good reviews online, and the morons at bestbuy or circuit city are less than helpful. (a guy at circuit city yesterday told me that I should buy a particular samsung model that would let me watch pay per view for free because of the way it converts widescreen pictures). What stores are good to look at? Has anyone seen reviews of small widescreen sets? I cringe imagining a tv shipped UPS Ground, but have people ordered TV's online and had good experiences? Thanks.
