Where is a good place to buy cables?
I have need of 4 cables, all about 35-40' long.
I need a vga cable, a component video cable, and an S-video cable. Let's see. 1....2.....3.....

I was going to post http://www.bettercables.com/ until I saw some prices. The 40ft S-Video will run you $180, Component for $320, and VGA for $320.

I was going to say cables are highly overrated, go to Radio Shack, Best buy, etc. However, you are getting into lengths where cable quality (other than avoiding obvious crap) could make a difference. Can't you move stuff closer together?

I used Better Cables and was very satisfied with the quality. I too ran them through my ceiling but I did not want to compromise on the primary path of my signal for my theater. I had a 25' component cable made.

I like Parts Express too, but you might want to try http://cablewholesale.com/ for longer cables. I got a 25 ft digital coax cable from them a few weeks ago for $15! They also sell through Amazon, which is where I made my purchase. It just made me feel safer. Received the cable quickly, and have no complaints. They even sent a catalog in the box.

This is bizarre. I just bought a front projector too, and need cables about 40' long (component & s-video). I also just saw you post over at avsforums.

I used to use www.cablestogo.com but they kept sending me the wrong cables. That was a few years ago, so they might be better now.
It sucks that none of these places will use USPS as a shipping option. I'm paying $29 to ship a 50' s-video and a 50' component cable.

I bought a 50ft s-video cable at Microcenter for $30. It works great hooked up to my SP4805. You can also order the cable from Microcenter online for $6 shipping.
BTW, Microcenter was the only non-boutique B&M store I could find that sold A/V cables greater than 12ft long.

kv i used www.avcable.com for my long runs into my CRT projector...price was good and cables were well made...

cablesamerica.com is another good source. 50' component for $40, 50' s-vid for $25. Good quality cables too. (Blue Jeans are more in the 'Monster' category in terms of price etc. btw.......)

Costco had the Infocus Screeplay 4800 with a 76" screen for $1100, so I picked that up last Tues. I'm currently just using my walls to watch DVDs (screen has to be wall or ceiling mounted and I had to move the TV and HT Equip. rack first...which I just did last night).
Now, like you, I'm planning on making a new low profile equipment stand. My cables should be here on Weds, and I just have to figure out how to mount the projector. (I have a vaulted ceiling, but there's a support beam that goes right over the sitting position in my living room, so I'll use that, but I want it kind of behind the beam.)
I'll pick up a new DVD player next year most likely. I'm still using my old Toshiba 3109 I bought back in '99. I'm only using S-video now, but the picture still looks great and the light control stuff isn't as problematic as I thought it would be.
What did you end up getting?

http://cablewholesale.com/ is where I bought my VGA cable. I made my own component cables with quad-shield RG-6. I've been happy with both. I have a BenQ PB6100 Projector. Made my own ceiling mount as well:. I'm a DIY kinda guy.

Ceiling mount on the way.On thing to think about. I just picked up a new dvd player Toshiba SD4900 (?) for about $80 shipped which got great reviews, but I just also bought a new computer with XP media center on it. It will do HD-DVDs with Windows Media 9.0 (and I would assume progressive scan). It may be more worth your time to look into that. T2 Extreme edition has a High Def disc in it, so I will give it a try.
I should be done in a week, and will post pics of before and after. Just put together the home made entertainment center. I had to have a special cut because I have concrete step that use to go to a door, but now goes into the wall. It still needs to be painted.
And weirder yet, I was still using the 3109 as well, and just put it in the living room to replace an Apex or some other odd brand that I have in there (classic?)

Also, my drywall just needs to get textured, and then I paint that wall BLACK! My wife doesn't understand....so I bought her a horse trailer, as I don't understand that.
