Good portable DVD player?
Hi - I'm looking for a decent portable DVD player, and like many don't want to spend a fortune. From the reviews I've seen, it appears that Panasonic is the no-brainer choice for a good machine that lasts longer than a few months. Any opinions? Performance isn't a big concern other than skipping, I'd rather have durability.

Panny has it's fans (:))...but many of us are partial to the Mintek 1770, available at Costco for $200-$220 with accessory kit. Great picture, very reliable.

I had the $180 from BB. I had it a month and the screen went black. You can still hear the sound, but no picture at all. I did not get the extended warranty because it was $80. I really wish I did now though.

I'm not sure what model Kdubby is talking about (probably NOT the Mintek), but most of us get our Minteks from Costco, where they have a lifetime warranty.

I just checked Costco and they're going for $279. Target.com has them for $199/free shipping.

I'm a Panny fan and can't recommend the LS5 highly enough for portability (it's the size of a square portable cd player) and great picture quality. Even though the screen is 5", the detail and viewing angle make it a great viewing experience, and the flip-out lid design is cool. Add a 5-6 hr battery for $50 to the included 3+ hr battery (they are small), and you are ready for any long trip. The larger Panny's also have the best pq I've seen on portables. (I've seen a great looking Samsung or 2 as well.)

Originally posted by Soytnly I just checked Costco and they're going for $279. Target.com has them for $199/free shipping. A Target CSR told me that they should be able to ship some time in September. :( So, I cancelled my order with Target for the Mintek, and order a Toshiba SDP-1400, after reading some good reviews for it, at a few sites. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...onics&n=172282 It's $285 (with free shipping), but right now Amazon gives you a $50 GC with the purchase of one, so essentially it's $235. Has anyone around here had experience with the 1400? |
i think this one is a cool idea. a tablet portable dvd player. i wonder how they protect the screen?

Sorry. I have the Mintek with the 5" screen from BBY that the screen went black on.

Originally posted by DVD Josh I've had some experience with it. It was on my short when I was looking for one. I got both it and the Mintek from Costco (Toshiba from online). I thought that the Toshiba was bigger, and the PQ was pretty much the same. I did like the the dual headphone inputs. I chose the Mintek because of the price ($100 less). I think you made a good choice. I hope I made the right choice! From what I read, it sounded like the Toshiba was worth the extra $35. :) |
