Cyberhome 300 will not play audio on some DVDs! WHY?

This damn DVD player will not play any audio for 3 Criterion DVDs I was going to watch tonight (Juliet of the Spirits, My Life as a Dog, and Man Bites Dog).

Has anyone else had this problem?

If this can't be fixed I may find more pleasure throwing this player down a flight of steps then wondering if it will play the next dvd I put in it.

Oh, the DVDs play just fine in my bedroom dvd player (very old RCA model)

I have one that every month or so will lose one channel. I unplug it, plug it back in, and it's good for another month.

Well this is very strange...

With the Cyberhome 300 that has never given me a problem, I tried to play Criterion's The Killers. No sound.

I played with the 300's audio settings and still got nothing. Unplugged it, plugged it back in, nothing. Then I put in another DVD that previously had working audio and it still did, put The Killers back in and there was audio.

I think this happens when the DVD costs more then the player.

You could be right!

It's strange. As I said, if I play a DVD whose sound has always worked ok, then take it out and replace it with the one that didn't, the sound works on the faulty one too.

If I turn it off between the two discs I get no sound on the faulty DVD.

fender69 - are you using the analog outs? I am into a stereo TV or receiver. Maybe the digital outs are working? Does it have anything to do with the disc being mono DD?
