Receiver making popping sounds, help?

I just got a new receiver (Panasonic SA-XR25) tonight for a really nice price, but one problem... any time there's a break in the sound source (fast forwarding, switching menus, etc), it makes loud popping sounds... any ideas on how to eliminate this? I've never had it happen before, it's a little irritating. Thanks for your help.

Does this only happen when you are listening to a digital source?

it happens anytime there's a switch, even if i'm just switching between the receiver inputs, with no streams going.

I had experienced teh same thing when I hooked up digital cable along with having the digital output from the DVDplayer to the HT as well.

My HT has both a single Optical and single Coax digital audio input and I had the Cable using the Optical input and the DVDPlayer using the Coax input - as I had noticed the same popping sounds only when I watched TV, I had attributed it to a bad Optical cable, but before trashing it and spending another $40 on a new optical cable, i figured I try to swap the optical and coax with the player and the cable box and the popping noises went away.

I would recheck all the connections. If it continues there may be a problem with the unit.

Thanks for the responses... I've managed to get them down to a workable level, but they still exist... the receiver is supposedly all-digital, and it appears it has trouble with analog sources. I don't use many analog sources, so I switched the receiver from "auto" to "digital". This helped, and also got rid of the annoying, constant rumble from the sub (quiet, but just loud enough to bug the hell out of me). The receiver got great reviews (budget ones, of course), once I get this figured out it should be worth the $100 I spent on it.

I also have the same problem with my JVC HTIB. Speakers would pop once I went from the movie to the menu or vice versa. I exchanged the item and the new one still had the same problem. I turn on the receiver once the movie is starting, I don't do it during the menu.

if you've got "hum" or "rumble" from the LFE on an analog signal, id try swapping out that cable - sounds like some impedance due to a lousy rated cable

ALSO, check through your HT setup to make sure that the LFE in the proper PHASE - your manual and/or a good HT setup disc should be able to help you out with that

I've got a Yamaha DSP-1 and once in a while it pops as well. I have no idea why it does it and it happens so rarely, I have never questioned as to what causes this...
