Any ideas why my 3-year old Samsung DVD Player doesn't like new discs?

Any ideas why my 3-year old Samsung DVD Player doesn't like new discs?
Almost every new disc I buy (okay, Uptown Girls for my wife not included), I'll get to like 1 hour into the movie --- then skipping from hell, like a child just used the disc as his personal toy. After trying to change chapters, pause, etc. unsuccessfully, I finally eject and try again with no luck.
Put it in another player, even a crappy one, and it works fine.
Do i need to buy a new one?

I don't know if you have the same problem but it sounds like what happened to my Toshiba earlier this year. After an inspection, I was told my laser had been moved out of alignment.
I have'nt had it repaired as yet (bought another one) but I'm gonna have it fixed (if possible) later on this year.

That sounds quite possible. I wonder how much a fix is --- I'm dying to get a 5-disc progressive scan player.....even though I have no idea what progressive scan is or why I'd need it.
