Weird sounds on my new Phillips 30 inch widescreen

I bought a Phillips 30 inch Widescreen non-HD TV this week and it's making some odd sounds. Sometimes when it's on it produces a thup-thup-thup noise, similar to a helicopter. Also, if I put the sound preference in any format but Voice, there is a staticy quality to the dialogue.

Are these normal problems? Is there any easy way to fix it? I messed around with the connections and nothing changed. Should I call Best Buy (I bought the service plan) and let them deal with it?

Is this both through the tvs speakers and through a system or just one?

Isn't that an oxymoron? I'd definately have someone take a look at it. That much noise is probably distracting and that's not what the TV is for.

Just through the TV speakers. I don't have a system set up yet.

Thank God I'm not the only one! My Philips 30" widescreen telly does this as well. I have the non-HDTV one. The sound mine makes is very, very faint and cannot be heard when the TV is just playing at regular sound. When I put on my headphones, however, that is when you REALLY hear it. The same sound described by the thread-starter comes from mine. It was really slow at first - the intervals were slower. When I connected the power cord to a Monster Cable "Clean Power" surge-protector, the intervals of "thup-thup-thup" speeded up. I figured this was due to dirty/staticy power in our (circa 1920's) apartment building (my old TV picked up all sorts of weird sounds like foreign radio stations. It was fine in my old apt. building and the new owners say nothing like this is occuring to them).
Also, the sound only occurs when a channel or video source is being watched. When I tune to an unused cable channel, I just get a black screen and the usual hum/hiss of the speakers being on. I dunno - I haven't complained to Philips or Best Buy because: 1.) the TV has exceeded my expectations and I'm quite happy with it, 2.) the few tekkies I asked just have no clue as to what I'm trying to describe and 3.) I threw away all the packing materials and the box so taking it back to BB is impossible.
