Those Bose Noise cancelling headphones - are they good?

I am seeing them more and more on flights and was wondering if they are worth the price, or are there other brands out there which are better.

i've been wondering the same thing. unfortunately i don't travel enough to justify spending $250 or so on them. i think sony makes a pair that is popular too.

Thread about noise cancelling headphones: http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=215472

The brand I use are JWIN, and I got them for about $25 from a local Longs Drugs store. They go over the ears, and are a bit uncomfortable and bulky. They don't do a great job, but you can tell that they cut down on airplane noise when you use them. For the price, I'm pretty happy with them. But I don't need them that much as I can get by with a headphone volume booster on interisland flights.

Bose equipment are high priced with low quality performance across their entire product line. As is always the case you can find better headphones for far less money then those from Bose.

They do work well (some of the best).

But like Blade I have cheaper pair that do just fine.

Any thoughts on the Sennheiser PXC250 or HDC451 headphones? I haven't found any mention of this brand discussed as far as noise canceling. I own a pair of traditional headphones from them that I use at home which I am extremely satisfied with.
The HDC451 is about $70, and the PXC250 is about $120 at Amazon.

I have PCX250 and they are really good. I've tried them in planes, trains, buses, etc. and you can still hear the noise but the headphones reduce it a lot.

I bought $50 Panasonic set and they are certainly effective. I won't travel without them now. I've heard the Bose ones are quite kick ass.

I tried the Bose ones on a trans-Atlantic flight and they worked great, however I don't travel enough to make the price justifiable. If I start travelling more or the price comes down, I will definitely consider them.

I like the Bose headphones for both performance and comfort.
I've had 3 different brands and the Bose are the most comfortable by far.

I guess it depends on how long you'll be wearing them.

I've got a pair of the Aiwa phones I picked up at BB... worked great, although they did get a mite uncomfortable 3/4 through a coast-to-coast flight. Added a bit of padding, no problem. Under $60 too.

I went out on a limb and ordered the Sennheiser HDC451 from Amazon. They were half the price of the PXC250 even though the list price on both was $150. Actual usuage will probably be minimal, and I know that Sennheiser makes a good product. I'll be sure to report back in a few weeks after my plane trip and let you now how it worked out.

I'm back from my flight, 4 hours each way. And I absolutely loved the HDC451 headphones I got. They made it so much easier to hear the audio on my portable DVD player. When I turned off the noise-reduction feature, I could barely hear anything. Some of the Amazon comments mention that they are unconfortable, but I had absolutely no problem with them. Take into consideration that I have no experience with any other competing model, but I really did enjoy these headphones. They are worth what I paid for them.
