distorted sound?

Has anyone ever had distorted sound on their HT. I get a few seconds of distortion on some DVD's. The most recent case is Charlies angels-full throttle, netflix rental. I have a sony dvp-nc600 dvd player, onkyo hts760, optical cable. It is very annoying.
I never hear it off digital cable or music cd's. I want to blame the netflix rental, has a few scratches. I did clean it and it seems to be better.

hum, digital audio doesnt typically "distort" when there is a scratch, its more like a pause or a hiccup. was it being driven loud? some speakers just cant handle that much power before they distort.

The volume level was no higher than I had been using in the past.
I am wondering about where the problem is dvd, player or amp.

Distortion results from speakers being overdriven or underdriven. It would be the amplifier.
