Home theater set up question

I was just retweaking my home theater setting and found that there were two things that I'm not sure what they should be set at. How would I find if my reciever is able to output a signal rate of 96kHz or if it should be set to be compressed to 48kHz by my dvd player? And also how do I know if my reciever is capable of outputting the MPEG digital bitstream? My dvd player is the Pioneer DV-525 and I have it hooked into my JVC RX-778VBK receiver through optical audio output.

Check your owners manual or the JVC website.

I have checked the owners manual and around the web but I can't seem to find anything that suggests which setting to use.
