HD Receiver? To buy or not to buy...
I'm contemplating buying an HD receiver for my 50" Toshiba HDTV. I know there are only a few channels that Direct TV offers in HD, but will I notice that big of a difference with those channels? I mean how close to DVD quality will it be? Thanks.

Going from DVD to HD (especially for a football game) can be even more of a jump than going from VHS to DVD.
BTW, if you have a progressive scan player: DVDs would be 480p rather than 480i.

Your 50" Toshiba displays at 720p
I currently get ABC, ESPN, INHD and INHD2 via cable for my 50" Toshiba. The INHD stuff looks incredible. Monday Night Football looks incredible. ESPN has Sunday night football and Playmakers in High Def, it looks very sharp.
I want DiscoveryHD (lack of programming but the programming they have is supposed to be the finest broadcast picture quality out there)

This would surely be better than sinking your own money into expensive equip, which ties you down to only one provider - hope DTV comes out with a similar plan - i would jump it

I just don't see the sense in buying a receiver when renting them is so cheap.
