Recording problem
 

I hope this is the right place to ask.

I am trying to record a DVD to VHS. I have it hooked from the Video out to Video in on the VCR. The sound is fine but the picture alternates from clean to very distorted every 10 seconds or so.

This doesn't happen with all of my DVDs. I have rarely tried to record things from DVD so this is a new thing for me. Is there some odd sort of copy protection that some DVDs have?

Is there a way around this?

Just to give a little more detail. Panasonic VCR. Phillips DVD. I haved used both Line 1 and Line 2 on the VCR. Front/Back ports. Same with each. The DVDs play fine thru the VCR Line if I am not recording. A few seconds after I hit record, the picture goes wonky. Then it comes back and repeat.

I have checked the recordings and this does show up there so it appears that something is happening to the signal once I hit record.

This is where I get really confused. If the signal from the DVD player thru the VCR is clean, why would it deteriorate once I started recording? Why would it bounce back between clean and good.

I have confidence that someone on this wonderful forum can help me.

umm, sounds like macrovision.. Don't think you can talk about this on here ;)

What is macrovision?

DVD players and VCRs are equipped with a form of copy protection called Macrovision. Discussing how to defeat it is against the forum rules you were supposed to read when you signed up.
