top and lower corner of TV suddenly went purple/green! help!!?!?

Hi guys,

I bought a toshiba 32" flat screen tube at Best Buy last year. It has been absolutely perfect until tonight when I was watching baseball playoffs suddenly i noticed the top left and lower left corners the color was messed up (purple/green) similar to when u put a magnet to a tv.........i turned the tv off for a second and back on and it was normal then reverted to messed up again a few seconds later. I then turned it off for about 10 seconds and back on and its been fine for hours.......should i be worried??? what is going on? Luckily I bought the Best Buy 4 yr extended warranty.....

Not necessarly ! I had that same problem last week on all 4 corners after the cable company came out. I was supposed to have HDTV installed and they were having problems. They temporarly relaced the main cable outside and I got the problem. It went away when they took off that new cable and put the old one back on. A cable guy that was over today said they probably just had that new cable on too loose.

Could be interference, could be some dying guns, could be alot of things. I say if it happens again, take it back to BB and demand a new one right away. If they don't give it to you, start yelling until they do

Is there a magnetic field generated somewhere nearby on that side of the TV? For example, from a speaker or a clock radio or other items that may have a magnet, even a small one?
If so, move the object and see if the distortion clears up. I know that you are already aware of magnets based on your original post but there might be something nearby that may not seem to create a field but may be. Also, although the TV is big, can you move it somewhere else away from anything and does it clear up?

ngp got it. i mentioned to an elecronics technician i know and he asked if a magnetic field was around it such as speakers......which reminded me that about 5 minutes before the colors appeared my brother was fiddling with a bass box and the wiring on my stereo, which is next to the tv. anyway, turning the tv off apparantly "degaused" the television or something and now its fine. thanks.
