More AVS Forum fun...

This guy spent more on his HT than you did:
http://homepage.mac.com/imacdoyou86/...toAlbum24.html

That's over 500K in equipment, easy. The Wilson X-1 mains go for about 85K alone, the surrounds are 22K a pair and he's got three pairs, etc, etc. Note the ceramic cable holder-uppers, that's friggen nuts. The guys over there are insane.

broadwayblue 09-21-03 08:11 PM

yes they are. but i've learned a lot from them. most people would think that everything in the AV world is terribly flawed if they took what they said seriously.

palebluedot 09-21-03 08:26 PM

Seems a bit excessive but I guess if you have the money to throw away might as well do it.

gotapex 09-21-03 08:46 PM

You know he's replacing his X1 Grand SLAMM with X2 Alexandria right? :)

Jason 09-21-03 09:21 PM

I know any criticism of set-ups like this come across as sour grapes, but if I were going to drop $500k on AV equipment, I would have my home theater look better than the demo room at the local stereo shop.

Again, to each his own, but I'm most impressed by home theaters that try to look like real theaters.

Plus, the dude really doesn't have that many DVDs. I imagine the top three rows of his racks are DVD Audio or something though.

I am quite happy with my system.

I am sure he is also :)

If I had the money I would buy nicer equipment also.

I wonder why he does not have Bose ;)

gotapex 09-22-03 12:56 AM

Sad, spending all that money and not even getting a Bose. :)

Everyone has their own threshold of fun.

I learned a great deal there when building my theater.

Hiro11 09-22-03 07:31 AM

Please note: I'm not dissing this guy at all for spending that amount of cash on a system. To each his own. It's more that I'm just amazed at the lengths some people will go to for quality sound reproduction.

Gotapex: yeah, I read that.

I kind of agree. However, it's clear that this guy in more concerned with performance than anything else. It is interesting to me that the walls of the room are builder white. You can tell what he cares about.

damn.... you can love home theater...but not "LOVE" Home theater.

flyingdragon 09-22-03 01:19 PM

You'd think after dropping .5 mill this guy would have some "change" left over for some custom installation.

bdshort 09-22-03 05:36 PM

Do those ceramic speaker wire holder uppers actually DO anything performace wise? I would eat my hat if they actually did. To me, spending that much on audio is silly. I think there is a point of diminishing returns in HT, and I think it's well before half a million bucks. If I had half a million to spend on a HT, I'd build a HT room that held 20+ people and looked like one of those old time movie palaces.
