Why do some discs skip on some machines but work on others?
I hope this is the right forum. (It should be since my question is really about DVD players more than the discs themselves.)
I am really baffled by this problem. Why do some discs work perfectly on some machines but skip on others? For example, my T2: Ultimate Edition skips on the PS2 and my friend's regular player, but it runs perfectly on a different friend's DVD player and PC DVD drive. I'm guessing that I got a slightly imperfect disc from the beginning (too bad I opened it a year after I ordered it - yeesh!), but that still doesn't explain why some players can play it flawlessly while others show skipping.
Any ideas, guys?

easy explanation: some DVD players are better than others at handling less-than-perfect discs. The PS2 is actually pretty decent at reading DVDs - it just needs to be opened up and cleaned every once in a while.
There's a reason why some DVD players are $70 now and some are still at $900.
