Do I need 2 component cables or 1 for my setup?
 

Hi,

First of all, here is my equipment setup:

1) A Sony Wega w/ component options in the back
2) A Yamaha receiver w/ component options in the back
3) A Toshiba dvd player w/ component options in the back

What's the best setup option?

1) Connect ONE component cable from dvd player to tv
2) Connect a component cable from dvd player to receiver. And connect another component cable from receiver to tv.

I was looking at the receiver manual, and it had a diagram for option 2. So, I became confused if I need to buy 2 component cables for option 2 or just buy 1 cable for option 1.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Unless you're switching multiple sources into a TV that only has one component input you should just run from the DVD player to the TV.

Under the receiver alternative you would need two sets of cables and you'd introduce the possibility of signal degradation.

Thanks X! I was looking at those MOnster cables component. My gosh...a 3 feet for about 50 dollars :(. I'm glad I don't have to buy 2 now....save the other 50 for some DVDs instead :)

I use Radio Shack component cables myself. A short length like 3 feet shouldn't matter much (if at all) and you save a lot of money.

There are other brands that are inexpensive and good quality too.

AR cables are good. As are the Python comp. cables at cablesamerica.com. Highly unlikely that you'll see *any* difference between those & M*nst*r, except in the fullness of your wallet.

I'm with drmoze on this one, get some Acoustic Research (AR) cables instead of the Monsters. Just as good but at a fraction of the cost. I'm very happy with mine. I, too have a Sony WEGA FS.
