Dumb progressive scan question

OK, here it is: does a DVD have to be anamorphic to benefit from a progressive scan signal? I thinking of getting a cheapo DVD player that I can leave my TV show DVD's (which are of course mostly 4:3) in, instead of always switching discs out on my main player. Wasn't sure if I should spring for a component cable when I could just use the S-Video output.

Yes, non-anamorphic titles will also benefit from progressive scan.
