Strange problem on my Mits HDTV.

Okay, so lately every once in a while my Mits will all of a sudden pin-cushion at the top and bottom of the screen. If I smack the side of the cabinet it goes back to normal. I may have to do this a couple of times in a given 10 minute period and then all is well. It seems to only be in the first 10 minutes or so of being powered on that it does this. I'm not so sure it's a loose connection but I will be checking that out when I have some time.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a 20" TV I just replaced.

Don't screw with it. Call the repair guy if it's under warranty.

Hi X, I was just over at the home theater spot and I found my answer. It looks like cold solder points on the convergence board. That's easy for me to fix (got a bit of solder running through the veins). Not under warranty unfortunately.

Note to Mits owners, this appears to be an extremely common problem on Mits convergence boards so get that extended warranty, it's about a $400 board.

I got the warranty on mine. I usually think they're a rip but for a $4000 purchase why not invest a couple hundred more dollars.

That's great! Nothing wrong with trying to fix it yourself when it's not under warranty.

Good thing you found out where to look. I gave up looking for the problem with the 20" and got a new one.

Well after more research it looks like cold solder points for ICs on the convergence mainboard. When my screen went wonky I taped on the IC heat sinks and sure enough the screen went to normal.

So I found this procedure to re-flow the solder points. So for you Mits owners that are off warranty I thought I would post the link...of course procede at your own risk. Unfortunately this does look like a pretty common failure.
