suggestions for hdtv ready wanting a pvr

here is what i have:

directv basic

a hdtv ready tv

surround sound

here is what i want:

hdtv programming

pvr capabilities (tivo or ultimate pref.)...hdtv recording capabilities would be like frosting on the cake but it is probably something i could live without.

and here are the questions i have based on the above:

should i wait until the dish network and directv hdtv pvr's come out to purchase?

or should i go for one of their deals on hdtv dishes and boxes now and purchase a seperate tivo system (eliminating the frosting and no being able to record in hdtv)?

if the answer is wait...i hear dish network's pvr will allow you to copy onto a dvd burner or super vhs...do you think it will be worth it to switch?...i am happy with directv right now

thanks in advance for your help!
