Need input on JVC XVN5SL and XVN55SL DVD players
I'm thinking of getting a DVD player that is reliable and can play as many formats as possible and I'm curious to know if anybody had purchased these 2 JVC models and which one would you recommend? Other DVD players in consideration are Sony DVP-NS725P, Toshiba 3900, or Panasonic S35. If there are better players that you can recommend, please do. Thank you

Still haven't seen any opinions on the JVC players. Does this mean that nobody in DVD Talk has ever bought these JVC players? If not how about the Sony NS725P which can play all formats? Is it a reliable player?

IMO JVC makes a DVD player that puts out a very good picture but there have been many reports of many discs having trouble on this brand. These are mostly the annoying types of problems like subtitles that won't turn on or off, disc lockups or certain extras not playable. I don't know much about the Sony since I can't stand most Sony products. I'd be looking at Panasonic, Denon, Toshiba (chroma bug though), or Pioneer (Chroma bug on some models) first. If you can overlook the other bugs in the JVC it makes a good player without the chroma bug. Then again some people aren't bothered by the chroma bug as much as others and will get a Tosh.
