Max length you can wire RCA cables?
How long of a distance can you wire something (spec a Laserdisc player) with RCA (the yellow, red, white ones) before you see any appreciable signal loss.

Unbalanced is the standard for domestic signal leads, with RCA connectors. Unbalanced cable has a single signal wire with an external wrapped or plated earth shield. Maximum length depending on cable quality before signal loss and interference is 6-12 meters. Balanced is the standard for professional signal leads, with XLR connectors. Balanced cable has two wires for the signal, with an external wrapped or plated earth shield. The same signal is on both wires, but in opposite phase. Interference that gets through the external earth shield is common (in-phase) to both signal wires. The balance effect of the input circuitry cancels any signal or interference common (in-phase) to both wires. Maximum length depending on cable quality is 30-100 meters. |
Ok, I was thinking like 25 feet. And that is way too much information. I'm just going to give it a shot.

1 meter = 3.3 feet
6 meters= 19.8 feet 12 meters=39.6 feet So if you want 25 feet, get some decent quality cables and you should be OK.. --mike |
Sucky cables will do fine too, I have a 25 footer from my cd player to my amp in the trunk of my car. And from what I remember they are radio shack brand.

Actually, 1 meter = 3 feet, 3 inches, so 3.25 feet
"Back off man, I'm a scientist." :) I'll try to get a decent brand, looked at a few places today and they only had 12 footers. Guess I'll keep looking. |
Well, I've been looking still, and I cannot find anything over 12 ft. RadioShack has 24', but only mono sound. Anyone know any online stores?

Use "coax" (RG59 (great), RG6 (overkill), RG11 (way overkill), like used to carry your cable TV signal. ) then F-to RCA adapters. (You can get the adapters at radio shack(like 2 for $2) .
Total price/cable under $10. Or if you want, get 2 12' cables then female to female RCA extension adapters. |

I'd never considered the coax idea though, I'll run by Radio Shack again and check out those adaptors. |
OK, I've been looking at some cables and I'm not sure how to proceed. Do I get a separate cable for each component L and R audio and video? Or just one and split it out?

I use Acoustic Research on cheaper equipment and bettercables on expensive equipment, I once went to a CES and I was told Sony uses silver plated copper for their showstoppers!
