Q's about Wega TV

Hi,
Today my dad went to check out TV and the salesman got him to buy the SONY KV-32FV300 for $1000 including stand and tax. We won't be able to pick up the TV until Thrus. However, I told him that he should have bought the KV-32HS510 since it's HDTV-ready. Anyone have any experience with either TV and should we spend an extra $300 to upgrade to HDTV-ready. Thanks for any comment.

depends on whether you want to watch HDTV or not. If you want to watch HDTV and are willing to spend an additional $300 for the HDTV and another additional $300-$700 for a HDTV receiver and spend an additional $$$ for a new UHF antenna (which you may need to get HDTV reception), then go ahead and buy the HDTV-ready TV. Or if you want to watch DVDs in progressive scan, then get the HDTV-ready TV. Or if you want to play Xbox games in HD, then get the HDTV.

But don't just buy an HDTV just because it's HD-ready. You need to review your viewing needs and habits and pick a TV that matches your needs.

Thanks for replying. I'll get the HD-ready set for a few more bucks. I don't have digital cable yet but I do watch plenty of dvds with the progressive dvd player and play video game.

Unless he subscribes to Digital Cable through his cable provider, in which case he may able to receive HDTV through that. Additionally, the HS510 contains the "Digital Reality Creation" multifunction circuitry, meaning it will upconvert analog sources to near-HD.
