Digix DV-288 DVD Player w/ NTSC & PAL Output and Hackable - $39.88
I don't know much about the player, but seeing that it's so cheap and also hackable might make it attractive.
The funny thing is they're trying to add on a sale of Monster fiber optic cable at a price of $39.99. Not only that, but the digital output of the player says it's coaxial!

X-
Did you pick one of these up after all? Gonna grab one today at Fry's just to toss in the front room.
I'm thinking the image quality will probably be compare to a PS2 or xbox's dvd playback.

Nice find X, um... thanks.
Take any review you read on www.dvdrhelp.com with a big chunk of rock salt. You've got to remember these are people that download a handy cam version of a movie and burn it to DVD. Not exactly known as the 'quality video crowd.' Heck, even the people that complained about it's inability to play back some things correctly and had other troubles with this player gave it a rating of 8 out of 10!

Ayyyye. Tis a grrreat little dinger. Do you always have it on standby? Or do you alwasy turn it all the way off? When I do, it shocks the subwoofer. Don't know yet if that's good or badd....

The subwoofer is doing something to deserve it for sure, most likely it talks about you behind your back. I used to keep mine on standby but now it's my 2nd player so it's powered down until it becomes necessary to open a can of wupp ass on my other components. I like my main player quite a bit, but it refuses to do anything about the receiver, which has been acting like a little jerk lately.
