How to hook up Stereo to Computer

Not sure if this goes in Computer/Home Theatre. I want to hook my computer up to my home theatre, so I can have my MP3's played through my stereo. What do I need to do this?

The problem is, the computer and stereo will not be in the same room. If I need an RCA cable, I will need a really long cable.

I have a compaq presario, 700MHz, 20Gig HD.
And I have a Sony da555ES Receiver. If that helps.

Thanks

You need some really long cables, and a mini-pin to RCA stereo adapter. What type of long cables is up to you, your budget, etc..

Radio Shack will probably be your friend here. Any idea how long the distance is? Basically, you can do 1 of 2 things:

1. Get a really long mini-pin stereo patch cord that can plug into your sound card, and then get the adapter to change it to RCA stereo jacks at your stereo.

2. Get a mini-pin to RCA stereo adapter and plug it into your sound card, then get a really long RCA audio cable to run to your stereo.

Option 1 is probably cheaper and more realistic. As you're talking about MP3's, I wouldn't go all out on cables, especially a long run which could end up costing a lot of cash.

Does your sound card have a digital out? All Turtle Beach Santa Cruz and Soundblaster Live cards do.. If so, then your solution will be to get a long RG-6 cable with rca adapters at each end to be a coax digital cable. This you can run as long as you (practically) want. You'll need a 1/8 to rca adapter as well to plug in to your soundcard.
