Got a Cyberhome 500 as well.
Decent player for the money, but it definatly is a sub $100 player. It doesn't remember your spot on disk, is kind of slow to load the disk and menus, but it will play darn near anything you throw at it.

Malata is tops along with JVC, and you can get a real nice one for about $230 shipped...check the international forum.
Personally, I own a cyberhome, just because it really was like $50. If it pops, I'll get a malata. but until then, it's the cheddah.

You can get the Malata DVD-520 for about $250 shipped. It is a great player. I still use my Denon 1600 (a TRULY great player) as my primary player, but I use my Malata for R1 4x3 and Non animorphic discs (as well as R2-6/PAL discs of course) because of its great scaling features. Well worth the money and I have had no trouble with it at all. My one complaint is that you have to turn the power on at the front of the player. No power button on the remote. And it wont save your place on a disc if you turn it off. But these are minor things (at least to me).

I own a JVC XVS500BK with *manual* switch to play all including RCE discs, my set has a built power converter for PAL and has a hardwired, progessive scan.
All part of the mod that was done in the USA. I bought the already mod player about February of 2001. No complaints and no problems. For DVD-A and disapearing zoom icon, I got the Toshiba SD-4800 both were under $200 each.

The region free Panasonic RP-82s do not convert PAL->NTSC. The Cyberhome is good for $50 and does a perfect conversion, but the doesn't have the best picture quality. If you are serious about watching PAL discs, get a modded JVC.
The cheap Chinese players don't do a perfect PAL->NTSC conversion.
