Any suggestions on a mobile video system?

This is for the kids while traveling. I'm not looking to spend a lot but don't want anything that they would have to strain just to watch.

BTW, this will go in a '99 Dodge Grand Caravan.

Thanks.

I tossed back and forth with this same issue.
I really thought I wanted an LCD based mobile video system, but the more I looked at it the more my feelings changed.

I ended up getting a portable 9 inch tv/vcr combo with A/V inputs from best buy (magnovox I think). I have a portable dc powered dvd player I plug into the A/V jacks.
That gives me DVD or VHS video on a 9" screen for a fraction of the cost of going the lcd route, especially trying to get a 9" lcd.
Granted, this solution was a bit bigger than I originally planned, but the thing actually fits pretty well between the 2 front seats and it's big enough both kids can see it without issue.

Thanks for the input everyone.

buzzdalf I was thinking of just getting a 9" inch like you. How does that work out? Any special way that you have it setup so that it's somewhat tilted up? How is it secured? Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks.

It works pretty well for us.

It sets on our console between the 2 front seats. I hold it down with 2 bungee cords to keep it from shifting whil I'm driving.
A lot of minivans don't come with a center console. I suppose if we didn't have a console, I'd probably just build a little box to set it on.

Any recommendations on a portable? I was going over the BB paper today and noticed a Mintek 7" for $349. Any thoughts?

Oh well, I still have sometime to search around.

NOOOOO!!!! Stay away from the Mintek portible. We have those things come back in for service all the time. I am sure that you can find a used player on ebay or someplace else, but please, please stay away from what very well could be the worst made portible of all time.

Oh, I work at best buy... That is how I know the track record of these players.

I would take the other angle on the mintex. It is made by Shinsonic who makes many of the portables for other major companies. Plus if you have a problem BB will take it back.

And the price is worth any hassles.

I have an initial 6.8" I got at Walmart for $299 and it is made by Shinsonic also. It has been fine and I use it all the time. THis one came with the car adaptor also. Some dont.

I have a Panasonic LA95 - 9 inch screen and I love it. I also have the Wallmart 7 inch Initial 6.8" player; which is my "emergency" player (ha!).

I love watching on my personal movie theatre, especially with a good set of headphones. It's the best - especially for traveling. My husband likes it when I take the player on long car trips - keeps me quiet! I watched the whole first season of "Six Feet Under" on our last trip; was awesome.

Have fun!

I would second (or third) staying away from the mintek. I even bought the extended service thing but had so many problems within the 30 days that I just took it back.

I went with the cheap between the seats VCR in a bag thing. 5 inch screen is fine as our minivan is a small one and its at close range
