Apart from a couple of music hall modes, the current Yamaha DSP modes are all very listenable, with relatively subtle effects that work well. Even DD/DTS have an 'enhance' option that makes the sound a bit 'larger' without being echoey.

My friend bought a Sony HTiB some time ago, and I was surprised at how wholly unimpressed I was with the sound. However, he showed me all the sound settings he had, and I commented how "cool" they were. The whole time, I was thinking, "what in the f*** are you going to use these for?" I remember the toilet bowl one. That is funny.
