Who has a Panny XP-30 DVD Player? Possible Samsung replacement...
I need to get a new DVD player... I just bought a 47" HDTV and got a HD DSS receiver... I bought a Samsung DVD-P721M Progressive Scan DVD player and am not happy with it...
1) The remote is a POS... the navigation on the remote is a small "joystick" and is inaccurate to say the least... The buttons are all small and the same size, making nighttime navigation a nightmare...
2) I nearly threw it out the window with this one... setting up my TV using Video Essentials... when the disc would come to a "pause" point, ya know the >| symbol... when I would hit play, the thing would reset all the way back to the begining... musta done this 20 times... I was really annoyed...
SO... I am returning it... I have been reading a LOT about the XP-30 and it seems to be a favorite... found it for $189 (Thanx sleepykid) on ebay... It's either that one, or a Sony at Circuit City for $140...
Are there any COMPLAINTS about the XP-30?
What are its HIGHLIGHTS?
Is it user friendly?
Is the remote easy and understandable?
Any and all comments are requested!
Thanx!
Chris

You might want to check out the second post by TonyS in this thread. I have decided to go the XP30 route as well. The downside seems to be the hard to read LCD display. I don't like the silver color, but that isn't a big deal. And I think I saw a post that said that the remote had small buttons all the same size, but I'm not sure about it (perhaps someone who has one can comment on that).
The XP30 has no digital coax out, just optical. And it does not read DVD Audio. The XP30 does not have built in sound decoding, which doesn't matter if you use a home theater receiver with optical inputs. More on the XP30 features can be found here. (There is a picture of the remote, but it is hard to see much detail.)

great player
so far so good with the XP30. compared to the JVC that i upgraded from this players picture is awesome. i didn't really think there would be much difference, but i could see it right away. this was even before calibrating with AVIA.
yes the front display is hard to read, but with a wide screen tv i'm sitting so far back that i wouldn't be able to see it even if it was bigger. i turn it off anyway. plus the OSD is great if for some reason i need to know what chapter i'm on or whatever. the remote buttons are small but once you use it a few times you know the placements anyway. plus the important ones to me, the directional arrows and enter, are large and easy to find.
no DVD-A, but i dont want it anyway. only an optical out for digital sound is fine too because i use a receiver to decode the signal anyway (don't most of us).
i really think this is a great player w/ superb picture. i'm completely satisfied with spending 189 for this player and was happy with the speed of delivery too in case anyone orders it from the same dealer as me. definitely recommended. look here too where it was rated 3rd out of 15 or so progressive players --> http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/cgi-b...asonicDVD-XP30

Thank you for your post about the $189 XP30 on ebay. I ordered one a couple of days ago.
[Edit: the XP30 arrived UPS on April 2. Works fine. Hard to beat $189 shipped.]
