Toshiba 50H82 Open Box

Okay, I have pretty much settled on the 50H82. BB has it for $1899.00. This evening when I went to visit my betrothed, I noticed that they have an open box 50H82 for $300 less. This was just put on the floor today. The salesperson swears up and down that this wasn't a display model and that it is just missing the box.

What do you think? I will be buying tomorrow.

"missing the box" .... is it a return? It's not like Toshiba sent BB a new tv without a box...

The other thing I would be concerned with is your ability to return the tv. BB's policy is usually to charge a fee (15% I think) for items returned without a box.

Other than that it is a fantastic price on a pretty sweet tv.

if it is truly just missing the box (how did they lose the box?) then it's a good price. if it spent any time as a demo model you don't want it. even if it was a return it is probably still a good deal as long as the original warranty is still in effect. for good measure i'd ask them to throw in an extended warranty for free...or for half price.

this set doesn't have a dvi input though. just make sure you are ok with that before making the purchase.

from a salesman's prespective, many stores (including my own) cant keep all the boxes for display models. we have like 50+ bigscreens in store, and keeping those boxes would take 80% of the warehouse space... when we unbox and display a bigscreen, box gets trashed immediately. we keep remote/manual, but trash box.

cant say how BB does things, but im sure they are the same way...

While it doesn't have DVI, it is DVI upgradeable. Thanks for the tip on the extended warranty, I'll give that a try.

I am pretty sure this wasn't a display model, I've spent a lot of time looking at "betsy" over the last couple of months, she's still there. "brenda" is all new. I will get the skinny on why it was returned before I commit. It does come with full warranty.

That makes sense but "Tsar Chasm" says:

"This was just put on the floor today. The salesperson swears up and down that this wasn't a display model and that it is just missing the box. "

So how does a non-display model have no box. Especialy on a big TV.. The box is mearly a cover for the TV.

This sounds like a return to me. but check it out carefully

Well, I solved the problem.

I contacted another B&M in the area and let them know about the offer at BB.

I am the proud owner of a Toshiba 50HDX82 :D

Total price $1717

Excellent!! That's a great price for the HDX....I noticed that Onecall had it for $1,699 w/free shipping but a local vendor is much preferred. Congrats!

nice...and now you don't have to worry about upgrading to dvi.

It was almost definitely a return. Here's what happens with a lot of the returns from my experience of having once worked at Best Buy. They see the picture in the store, think they will have that picture with ANY source material, and are subsequently disappointed. They then bring back the tv and claim the "product specialist" lied to them.
