[A link to a cable descrambler]

I removed the link as we don't want to advertise for them here.

Their language is tricky. They say it is legal to own your own cable box. It is.

But it is not legal to descramble cable signals without paying the cable company for that function. That's where their product is illegal, if it even accomplishes that.

It only works for analog cable. Digital signal is not "scrambled" They do sell a filter for around 20 bucks on Ebay that lets you order PPV. But since we are not allowed to discuss those things, I will just shut up.

The thing is they say that their filter won't let you get charged.

I read a negative feedback from someone on ebay saying that when your box gets full then you're screwed. The seller replied with "the buyer should have emailed them for instructions". Any idea what they are talking about?

No, I have no Idea about. What do they mean when the box gets full? Can you post a link to the guys feedback I'll ask him.

Why hasn't this thread been closed?

At least on satellite receivers of the past, you didn't have to pay for PPV (Dish-on-Demand) until you plugged the rx into the phone line and it uploaded the ordered movies onto your bill. With the old Dish Network software, a receiver would allow you to order up to $150 worth of movies until it got "full." Once it was full, you wouldn't be able to order any more movies until you uploaded the purchases to your bill, clearing the space for more movies to be purchased later.

I would assume that this cable descram works similarly, since someone has mentioned the possibility of it getting "full."

Analog cable isn't even worth FREE, anyway, so why is this thread alive?

The first complaint in this sellers feedback is on the same topic.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...&category=4693
I'm still looking for the original one I saw.
This must be what they are talking about

That's funny you have to buy the filter and then buy the information to use it.
Here's a question while we're on the cable box topic. I have 1 box already. It costs $9 a month for another. If I buy the same box on ebay will it work and will they know I am now using 2 boxes and charge me?

Berkowitz 03-19-03 08:00 AM

By the way my box(I mean a friend's box!!!) locked up last night. I tried(I mean he tried!) to reset, but nothing. It is currently hooked up analog with a decscrambler box. Almost forgot how many channels were on analog cable. I guess I need to order one of those "reset box auctions"

Movie_Man 03-19-03 10:17 AM

Here's a good read on the problems with the filters you are talking about.
