Mitsu Gold Series Vs Platinum Series.
OK.
So I had $2,500 burning a whole in my pocket (thanks Uncle Sam) and I decided to buy a TV.
I was narrowed down to two manufacturers pretty much right away, Sony and Mitsubishi.
After searching around a few local stores here, and on the internet. I was pretty much decided on a Mitsubishi.
My biggest dilemma was on whether to go with the Gold Series or Gold + Series, or make the jump to Platinum.
For those who dont know, the Platinum Series of Mitsubishi TV's have the built in HD Tuner, Netcommand (to control most of your electronics with from your TV, and IEEE firewire.
The Gold Series was $1,999, the Gold + was $2,399, and the Platinum was $2,699. They were out of the Platinum models though, and offered me the floor model for $2,499.
Without saying which TV I decided to buy, I'm curious as to what others would have bought if they were me.

well having the firewire would be nice for future equipment but an extra $300 for that.. hmm i guess the Platinum, but I wouldn't get a floor model just based on what these stores do to them (like turning the brightness up WAY to high)

I would second the gold+ suggestion only if you are looking to get a satellite dish down the road.
The gold plus has additional formatting option in 480 progressive and 1080i mode. The higher models don't offer that.
Unless you are in a good area where you can get off the air HDTV reception and are not considering satellite in the future, only then would i choose the platinum. I own a platinum plus and the HDTV reception alone is worth it.

well, i actually decided on the regular gold model.
1. Being that was $300 cheaper than the others ($500 to the Platinum)
2. It is a definite upgrade to the 19" Daewoo TV.
3. I have cable right now, so I would have to purchase another receiver anyway.
4. I could get a universal remote that controls everything like the netcommand.
5. By the time that I got sick of my TV, and HD was fully integrated, I would be in the market for a plasma TV.
I was unaware of the additional formatting options on the gold +, it might have changed my mind a little.
Anyway, thanks for all of the suggestions. I do appreciate them

Congratulations on your new purchase. The formating options i mentioned earlier are also in your model, so no sweat.
