Help selecting new system in Hawaii.
Hey all,
Okay I've finally got my house ready to move into and want to pick up a HT system. I need ideas on what to get and also if possible places that I can get them. The only problem is that I live in Hawaii and there aren't too many B&M left that sell HT products. There's C.City and a couple other stores. The stores that used to carry PSB and Paradigm stuff closed down. Here's my budget. TV: $1000 (want at least 34") Speakers, Receiver, Amp, Woofer (I have an old JBL one): $1500 I'm not sure what else I'll need. I have a Pioneer DVD player already (bought it since it plays all my VCD/SVCDs). I appreicate all your suggestions on the system and especially if you can tell me places I can get them from. Thanks |
Here's some other information.
The room is around 300sq feet and is connected to a dinning room. If possible I'd like to spend 1500 for all the required components, but my max budget is 2500. I've tested some Paradigm speakers before and liked them, but the store that used to carry them closed down and there aren't much places left here that I know of. Online stores would be good, but the main thing I need are some suggestions for a system so that I can begin researching and decide on what I want. Thanks |
Well, if you can't buy the stuff in Hawaii, you are going to spend half your budget shipping the stuff to you.

Best Buy and Circuit City are having a war right now, and both are offering free shipping on everything!

when you say 34" it sounds like you are talking about 16x9 sets. it will be pretty tough to find one for as little as $1000.

Thanks for the info. CC would be perfect, last I checked BB wouldn't ship to HI since they have no store here. That might have changed though. Any suggestions on a TV model?
|
are you wanting 16x9 or a standard tv? rear projection or direct view? just a couple of questions then we can start recommending.. of course broadway is right, not really gonna find one for $1,000 if you ARE wanting 16X9, might want to consider putting all that $ towards the TV and later getting new sound equipment, no reason to settle for a cheaper tv..
|
I just wanted a standard flatscreen front view TV. I'm not sure I can justify blowing my wad on just a TV. I need my other half to be more like that CC commerical "We can go bigger."

I don't know what island you live on, but there's a Sears outlet near Pearl City that sells televisions that have minor scratches for up to $500 off the MSRP. I just so happened to get a $1600 42" Samsung HDTV for $1040 from an outlet here in California, and also got a 3 year protection plan for $230 more. After i got home and inspected the unit i found no scratches whatsoever.
I'm sure they'll deliver to other islands however... |
well, for $1,299 you can get the Panasonic 32'' Flat Screen HDTV Monitor Brand/Model: PAN CT32HX42 from CC, this seems to be a pretty nice set, it is over your limit.. also not 34" but I am guessing you want HDTV? if not then we can do better but I wouldnt spend a large amount of $ on a non hd set..

$1300 for a 32" TV? Dang!
I spent $2600 on a 65" HDTV HiScan 4:3 Sony RP. I'd sell my soul and upgrade to the 65", spending another $1300, before I blew $1300 on a 32". The TV in my bathroom is a 32". (halfway joking) (I talked the guy down to $2600. Was orig priced around $3700 + tax. It was delivered unopened, factory sealed for $2600, after renting an F-150.) |
