I need help badly!!
 

I purchased a DVD player, and on the Majority of the DVD's I watch, it goes dark, then light, then dark again, and then light again. It does this throughout the whole movie. I e-mailed the company and they said that it is due to MacroVision. Anyone know what to do? It tells me to go check a technical help forum on how to disable MacroVision. Thanks, and please help!

I have a CyberHome DVD Player. Someone told me they were great, so I picked one up. The DVDs that did this were Star Wars Episode 2 attack of the clones, and Fried Green Tomatoes, along with a few others Ive rented before.

Sounds like you're running your dvd player through your vcr.

If you are running your dvd player through your vcr, is there any way for you to hook it up directly to your tv? You also could buy a video switcher.

Well, the TV that I have is the kind with the BUILT IN VCR. And the Red, white, and yellow jacks are on the BACK of the TV. So, is there any way to get around this? Or, if not, a CHEAP one?

I believe you can buy adapters that over-ride the macrovision.

Yeah, but unfortunately, the macrovision remover can cost about $100. Less expensive ones that only remove macrovision 1 don't work for all DVDs.

The other thing you may have to do is buy an RF modulator for about $25 and connect the DVD player to the TV through that. You would need to connect through the coaxial connector, not the composite (yellow).

Don't you lose a lot of video quality that way? He might as well just use the VCR then.

Also, very few know this, but COAX is MONO.

Yes, the quality will be poorer, but it may be his only option outside of buying a new TV.

Please pay attention to the above post. They talk about the model 500 having an easy macrovision hack. Possibly other models do too.

As far as using the RF connection, could you go from a PS2 using an RF cable to the VCR, then taping it that way? I'd like to know personally. Does using RF strip the Macrovison? Quality isn't a big issue.

Even this won't work, because the signal is still going through the VCR. Because it's a combo unit, it is always going through the VCR, you cannot circumvent it.
