Some TV/DVD Connector help
 

Hiya

I've just been given a DVD player as a present.

And I'm not really sure which method to connect it.

I'm not very technical, so any help would be appreciated.

The DVD player has 1 RGB Connector, 1 S Video connector & 1 Yellow + Red/White Audio thing(not sure what they are called)

My TV has 2 AV Connectors, 1 Scart Connector, 1 Super Video & 1 Yellow + Red/White Audio thing.

I live in Spain if that makes any difference.

And I cant really see what the difference is between the 2 AV connectors and the Scart on the tv, and the RGB on the dvd.

Whats the difference between all those? And what would be the best way to connect it all up?

Any help with my little problem would be a really appreaciated. Sorry if my English isn't to good :=)

Use the S-Video from the DVD to the TV (video)
Use the Red and White from the DVD to Yellow/White Red for sound.

The RGB on the DVD player is useless if your TV does not have it as well so ignore those.

Video:
At the very least, use the S-Video connections. The yellow connectors are the Composite video and yields the worst picture.

The best option would be Component, which is probably the RGB on the DVD player. I not familiar with a Scart Connector. Are the AV connectors on the TV the same as the RGB on the DVD player, i.e. 3 twist on connectors? That is probably your Component connector.

Audio:
Hook up red/white to red/white.

Do you have a surround sound receiver? Does the DVD player have a coaxial or optical digital audio output?

This is all on a pal system not an american version if that makes any difference.

Scarts, Euro AVs and RGB all seem to look the same. And are basically the only cables I haver ever used. I use them with a vcr, ps2 & my sat tv. I don't know the difference, and had never heard of rgb's before I looked on the back of the dvd player today.

I did a web search to find out what a component connection was(which you mentioned) Neither my dvd nor my tv have those.

My hifi has the dolby digital logo on it I believe, and the dvd has a coaxial audio thingie on it.

Does your hi-fi have a matching coaxial audio connector?

Does the RGB connector mean three coaxial connectors colored Red, Green, and Blue? That would be component video, your best choice but it will not work unless your TV has it also. Many newer TVs will.

As I understand it, you will want to hook up the SCART. I would run the Red/White Audio connectors to the TV also, and the S-Video if you have a cable. You should be able to switch inputs on the TV, though some sets disable one input when another is plugged in.

If you can hook up the digital audio to your receiver, you should get the best sound. You can hook up the red/white to the receiver also, depends on your system. As I understand it, the SCART also carries the sound?

The DVD player doesn't have a scart. So DVD RGB to TV ?? otherwise use the S-Video connections.

So they all look like the rectangular scart or they all have 3 round RCA/coaxial connectors? I'm still not clear on the 2 AV Connectors you mentioned on the TV.


Audio:
DVD coaxial audio thingie to your Dolby Digital hifi coaxial audio input.

The TV has 3 rear connectors.

2 AV & 1 Scart They are all rectangular, and look identical. The only reason I know they are not the same is because of the onscreen tv menus.

All 3 are the large rectangular shape.

Well I just wanted to thank everyone for their help.

I'm running the DVD through the Scart entry on the tv, with the options on the DVD set to rgb. I tried it through the AV's also, but the picture wasn't as good as it is through the scart.
