Nice explanation of the "anamorphic squeeze" for those who might have trouble grasping it:

Personally, I still prefer a 16:9 TV myself, but for those who still watch a lot of 4:3 content, it's nice to know some TVs have this feature.

Too bad they went to all that trouble but couldn't be bothered to use an example that was the correct aspect ratio. "The Fifth Element" is a 2.35:1 film, shown modified in that example cropped to 1.78:1.

From the tiny, tiny print at the bottom of the last page:


Note: The actual aspect ratio of The Fifth Element is 2.35:1, but for purposes of illustration, it has been zoomed in to approximately a 1.78:1 ratio.
