So is this the deal of a lifetime or would I be better off dropping $1500 on some Energy speakers and a decent receiver?

Personally I would never buy a speaker I could not listen to but that is just me.

I'm sure the setup would sound awesome. Is it a good deal at $3987? Of course. Is it worth $7796? I personally don't think so. Should you go into debt to buy this combo? Probably not.

How many high end audio systems have you owned? I won't recommend spending this kind of money unless you are accustomed to excellent sound. $2000 can buy you a very nice receiver from Onkyo and Denon, 5 speakers from anyone of half a dozen top companies, and a top sub like HSU or SVS.

That is a good price for that setup, but if you have never heard the speakers before you should not just buy it blindly. Speakers vary greatly in sound from one another and you may hate the way these speakers sound. If you are one of the few who don't like the way these speakers sound then the debt will be that much harder to bear.

You can get a very nice setup for $4000 later on if you decide it's worth it to you. Most people who are just starting out end up buying a system they really like for half that.
