new player recommendations

I'm looking to purchase a new player and have been reading quite a few threads in this forum. I'm interested in the Panasonic RP82 or CP72 and the Denon 1600. My main reason for a new player is to start enjoying DVD-Audio. My system right now is modest; a mid-level Sony reciever, cheap Yamaha speakers and JBL PB12 sub (though I hope to upgrade my speakers in the near future :-). I've read that the DACs on the 1600 are superior to the Panasonics but I'm wondering if I would even be able to tell the difference. Would the 1600 be worth the extra money for me? What other major differences are there between these players? I've read that the Panasonic has "nice user features" like 'time remaining'. Does this mean the 1600 will *not* display the time remaining (I kinda like that feature :p)?

I've also been interested in the Malata players for some now (guess the 520 would be my present choice). Can anyone give me some opinions on this player? My interest in it is for the ability to convert R2 PAL movies (there are some nice Truffaut and Godard versions on R2 that are either not available yet on R1 or are suposedly far superior to what's presently out on R1). Is the 520 a decent "second player" for what I'm looking for?

BTW, I'm also hoping to purchase a new widescreen HDTV this year if it has any bearing on your comments (the new player will be much cheaper though so I'll be starting there).

Thanks,
mark
