does anyone know about DVD players with passwords(need help explaining this to my dad

For Christmas this year, my parents went out and got a new Apex DVD player model number 1201 player(so far, so good). But since my parent's are very religious, they do not want my younger sisters(ages 17 and 16) watching any "R" , or "PG-13" films on DVD. My parent's put in a password in their player after they finally opened it up Christmas day(after a little prodding from me :) )

Now where is this going to seem weird. I gave one sister Star Wars:AOTC on DVD ,my parent's got Ice Age and one sister got Lilo and Sticth for gifts. The player plays Ice Age and Lilo and Stitch with no problems but when my one of my sisters puts in Star Wars:AOTC it will not play it. All three of these films are rated "PG" so in theory it should play them. I have not tested the new player with any of my PG-13 or R movies yet.

Is something wrong with the player or could my dad not have the password set proply? Why would it play 2/3 of the DVD but not Star Wars?

Can anyone help me?What do I tell my dad what's going with his new DVD player?

Thanks for the help everyone! :)

Does anyone here any expeince with these kinds of problems

It's probably set-up wrong...

But I have to ask...why in the hell aren't 16 and 17 year olds aren't allowed to see PG-13 films?

this just sounds like a problem with the Apex player detecting the rating, first double check the setting and make sure it's on pg for certain (looks like it is though) then call apex customer service at (866) 427-3946 and tell them the problem, they should have an answer for you and may be as easy as a firmware upgrade that they can send you or download off the web..
I can't find anything about ep2 being rated wrong on the disc, so I don't think its the dvd..

Heh Aaron,

I had the exact same problem. Got one of my sons a Magnavox for their bedroom. Set it up to block R movies, and I could not get AOTC to play unless I shut of the parental control completely. Can't for the life of me figure out why, I'm now wondering if perhaps it's because the extra features are Not Rated, causing the DVD player to block it completely not knowing the rating????
