can you copy from DVD to VHS?

Can you copy something from a DVD onto a VHS? If so, how?

I don't plan on doing it. I am having a debate with someone about why DVD is better. He says that with DVDs you can't copy, so he prefers VHS.

You can.

You just need to disable Macrovision, assuming you want to copy something copyprotected, which is something we do not endorse or approve of......unless for your own personal backup use.

Which is pretty much the same for VHS, so the person with which you are having the debate is hiding his head in the sand about new technology.

I agree with clemente. If that's your friend's rationale for prefering VHS over DVD,he must not have noticed that most prerecorded tapes carry Macrovision just like DVDs do.

The difference is, when I defeat the Macrovision on a DVD and record it, it looks a whole lot better than a dubbed videotape.

Does anyone know of the best DVD player that has Macrovision disabled? Preferably something with that Mediamatics chip like the Malata that properly displays a PAL to NTSC conversion AND can record to VHS tape?

The Apex is quite nice. check out www.vcdhelp.com for hacked/hackable dvd players

You can disable Macrovision with the CyberHome 500 and also make it region free and it does the PAL to NTSC conversion correctly.

You can find threads about it in DVD Talk's International Forum.
