Will home video on DVD-R benifit from a progressive player?
One of my hobbies is editing home movies and burning on DVD-R,wondering if a progressive player would help give me a better video on DVD-R.

No, a progressive scan player will not improve picture quality for home video recordings. All HD TV's line double creating progressive scan and most now include 3:2 pulldown. The main benefit of a progressive scan DVD player is the 3:2 pulldown function is performed in the digital domain, resulting in a flicker free picture.
3:2 pulldown works when film, 24 fps, is converted to video, 30 fps and the 3:2 pulldown converts the video back to film by deleting one frame eliminating flickering. Thus the 3:2 pulldown. Home video is 30 fps so there is nothing for the player of HD TV to convert. |
