What kind of labels to tag A/V cables?
 

OK, so a quick look at the back of my TV rack (with VCR, DVD player, cable box and receiver) reveals wires everywhere. It's a complete mess, and I really need to organize and label the different cables for when I need to move components around. I've heard different recommendations for labelling - plain white computer labels, those Dymo plastic labels, tie wraps, small luggage tags.

So what's the best (and neatest) way to label all those A/V cables?

I use scotch magic tape wraped over onto itself, you have to write on it with a magic marker but if you ever want to get it off it is real easy to remove. I only used this as it was all I had laying around at the time, but it has worked out great.

i would think one of those brother label makers would do a good job, there usually about $20.

Actually a good tip from Martha Stewart...Use Bread Package plastic clippy/closer things and use a sharpy on the blank side. Clip to each cable and bingo...a perfect label for each cord...

Can't those fall off though?

I use Brother label maker for my computer cables (so many USB devices hooked up to my PC and USB hub). It works great.

Crutchfield sells the Audio/Video Reference ( http://www.crutchfield.com/S-M13ls3r...asp?i=700AVREF ), which comes with 150 pre-made labels. It's basically an A/V primer, but the labels look pretty nifty. It costs $12.95. It's free when you buy certain components from Crutchfield (but then again, if you're paying Crutchfield's price, you're already spending more than $12.95 extra anyway).
