component cables a con?

Is there a difference between a set of component cables and say a set of audio / video cables. I was looking a some cables at radio shack and they didn't have component in the 12' length I needed, but they did have A/V cables, they looked the same to me, except for the color on the connector, the cable itself look the same size, and the connectors where identical except for the color ring. Since I am not some sort of videophille will I notice the difference between a set of component and A/V cables?

I have this feeling that when talking about a $20 set of 12' A/V cables at RS there is probably no noticeable differnce between these and the $34 6' component cable. Am I right or sadly mis-guided? Both cables stated that they were sheilded and had gold connectors and they looked identical

Once you get into high end cables I could see that there would be a difference but at this price point I am thinking its just all marketing BS.

Try searching because the cable debate has been had in this forum about 75,000 times.

Component cables should be 75ohms. The A/V cables are generally not 75ohms(ususally just the video/yellow cable). With that said buy a cheap set of cables and if the picture quality looks good to YOU then use those.

The more costly cables are that way because of good build quality and shielding. The cheaper cables are more susceptible to RFI/EMI interference, which can degrade video quality.
