Whats the weakest area of your Home Theater?
audio?
video? software? and how anxious are you to improve it? |
My VCR is broken. :) And I don't have a Tivo. Both pretty minor issues.
Integrated amp is still great. Speakers are great. DVD player is a few years old, but still performing well. Clearly, my weakest point was the TV, which I just upgraded to a front projector. Only real problem is ghosting on my new front projector, which I'm trying to resolve. But I have no plans to upgrade anything any time soon. I'm pretty happy at this point. |
my vcr has cold solder joints on the audio out rca connectors, so they drop in and out and you got to wiggle them to get sound. everything else is as good as its gonna get on a working mans budget.
just installed a brand new panasonic rp82 dvd player onkyo reciever is great klipsch synergy speaker system and sub is great polk f/x 500 bi pole surrounds are incredible 32 inch wega is nice for now, looking to install a 53inch widescreen hdtv in the next few months, I am waiting for a good price dish network is as good as any cable system, again cant wait to install new hdtv so I can hook up the hdnet channels overall I really cant complain. I actually enjoy movies at home much more than in the theater. The sound at home is simply incredible, it really stomps the theater's sound in all aspects! and I am on the right track to have the picture match.... A far cry from my situation 2 years ago, when all I had was a crappy 27 inch walmart tv and a chintzy magnavox HTIB that didnt even do dolby digital. |
TV. I have 60" rear projection but its not HD.
Next year. |
Monitor... my 50" RPTV is over 10 years old by now... I hope to upgrade to a front projector sometime next year, funds and wife-willing ;). Have to get a progressive DVD player at the same time.
Everything else is pretty good, though I'd like to upgrade my center channel and it would be nice to have a receiver that supported the 6.1 audio formats from Dolby and DTS. A digital CD player would be nice too. |
I would say the projector.
It's a Sanyo 800x600 lcd. I will get a dlp with at least 1024x768 and 1000 lumens someday. I did purchase a Denon 3802 (7.1 channel) and (2) Mirage side surrounds but returned them. I'm glad I returned the Denon because you can't switch from cd to dvd and visa versa with the remote. You have to manually turn the knob on the receiver. I have a Yamaha (5.1 channel) and I can do this with the remote. |
The fact that I can't fix my drop-out between 60Hz and 55Hz on bass sweeps...I've tried eqing...sub placement...room treatments...nothing.
|
Audio. I'm still in stereo.
Just haven't got around to it, but I'm getting motivated. |
The light colored walls of the room limits the contrast of my screen.
|
I need to upgrade my stereo from surround to Dolby Digital 5.1.
|
I have a HTPC and my monitor has a horrible level of darkness.
And not to mention the acoustic... |
My only weak point is AT&T's crappy cable signal on my great TV. I will get sattalite when local channels become available here and more HD channels are available.
|
I got the 55" RPTV last year and some new speaker......but I'm still jamming to the sounds of the oldies on my Dolby Pro-Logic Reciever.
I'm gonna have to upgrade that someday! |
19 (or is it 20?) inch tv
|
my non existant subwoofer...hopefully will be getting my B&W ASW600 to finish off the system soon :)
|
Right now it's a tie between my Trinitron 27" and my Panny RV-65 DVD player that doesn't do 96kHz audio over digital.
Hopefully both will be remedied soon though... |
Got a new HDTV.
Got a new Sub. Got a new progressive scan dvd player. Got a new receiver. so nothing I can think of. This year has been a great one where I have upgraded any area I was unhappy with. I guess my cable feed not being HDTV is the only thing I want to change. I really do not see it as a priority right now. |
27" TV... but it's going to have to do until I finish school (I still need to start school ;)) in a few years and am settled in a job. Then I plan on getting a LCD projector and a 8' screen. Unless someone can convince me why I should go with a smaller RPTV instead ;) A progressive DVD player will go with that.
I also need to eventually get a new receiver. I still have the Kenwood that came with my HTB-502 (I've upgraded all the speakers but not the receiver)... and I'd like an SVS sub too. My Klipsch is good but I want something that goes deeper :) And a room that doesnt have anything in it that will vibrate, like metal radiators (ick!) Brian |
My JVC 27" TV. It has S-video and is competent for my college budget and living environment. I'm very happy with my DD/DTS receiver, dvd player, and Energy take 5.2 system. The obsessive compulsive comes out in me when I'm watching episode II though and think that the EX is how it was intended to be heard, but that is way out of the question to upgrade financially and due to the fact most new releases are still 5.1 anyway.
|
Waiting for my Panasonic 26" TV to die , it's 12 years old still
going strong. When that day comes hope to upgrade to either a 34" or 38" CRT TV even plasma, wife willing. Happy with my present HT components though I am still in 5.1. |
Right now, it's my center channel speaker. I'd like to upgrade all of my speakers in the future. Other than that, I've got everything I want/need.
|
I'm dreaming of a front projection system...something on the order of about 100 inches in my basement.
But that's still somewhere out in the murky future. Meanwhile, I do very well with my 36 inch Wega, DTS and Dolby Digital sound. |
My current setup is great. I would love to have a dedicated HT room with a front projector but that will never happen so I've plateued until the next big thing comes out.
|
Right now I have 2 weak links :

the surround speakers
the TV set
The speakers are the weakest of the two : they're a three-piece Sony set that came free with my old Sony Dolby Pro Logic receiver. They sounded nice back then, but since I've upgraded to a Sony DE845 they really don't sound as good as a nice set of Paradigms would. Also, the main speakers (Fisher) are nice, but I get the feeling an upgrade there to Paradigm would be in order - I just don't have the $$ right now. The TV is a Sony XBR400 - it's a great set, but I really want a Toshiba 50HDX82 - and in the new house, the living room just screams for a larger set than the XBR400. The new TV will have to wait until next year, as we need to buy a washer/dryer first (though if we had it my way, I'd say bring the clothes to mom's house for a year so I could have the TV now - but the Mrs. didn't agree - heh). As far as equipment goes, I'm very satisfied with the DE845 and my Tosh 3750 DVD player. I might be getting new surrounds for Christmas, assuming Santa can find a loophole in the "new house" budget that affords us the available funding :) My current setup is great. I would love to have a dedicated HT room with a front projector but that will never happen so I've plateued until the next big thing comes out. |
