DirecTV new installation/account questions (roommates + TIVO)
 

Here's the situation.

I want a DirecTIVO 2, but I won't be here for the full year to sign a contract.

The account will probably go in my first roommate's name since all the other bills are in his name and he will be here for a full year. Catch is he doesn't have a working TV at the moment. He can use mine since mine is out in the living room though.

My second roommate wants a receiver in his room. I don't know how long he will stay here though so I'm not sure if he can sign a year contract.

How should we go about getting everything installed? I want to pay for the DTIVO 2 myself since it will be coming with me when I move out and I'll be getting a service plan with it.

If the TIVO2 gets activated in roommate #1s name, does that mean it is stuck in his name till the year is up? Or can it get deactivated as long as the other receiver stays in the apartment?

Will circuit city let me pay for the DirecTIVO and then not sign a contract since it will most likely be my roommate signing the installation contract?

We'll probably do the $25 two receiver installation and get an $80 credit towards upgrading to the TIVO2. Is it still possible for me to get the receipt in my name and get the account set up in his name?

Well I just got done talking to Best Buy and Circuit City. Basically there is no cheap way of getting a DTIVO2 and another receiver installed.

1) The DTIVO2 isn't included in any of the 1 receiver/2 receiver new customer $75 rebates.

2) A DTIVO2 and a regular receiver requires a multiswitch or an oval dish.


Guess I'm sticking with cable. :(
