Check out the International forum here on Dvdtalk, you may find your answers there. There is more traffic when it comes to region discussions.

I am an owner of the much discussed Malata N996 and I think it is the bomb diggity. It serves as my main player with no gripes.

The currently widely discussed Cyberhome 500 is region free, pro scan, and does proper PAL conversion all for under $100. The longevity of the player remains to be seen, however. Check out the threads here and in the international forum, and follow the links to other discussions about it posted in those threads to find out more, and get more opinions.

Speaking of region free players etc... I recently purchased a panasonic rp82 based on the recommendations of others. I am very pleased with the performance of the new player, however, I have noticed there is a website in europe which sells a region free kit for my player. Has anyone on here purchased the region free kit for the rp82? If so, how did it perform afterwards? any problems installing the chip or strange effects on the player afterwards?

Just curious....

wmunn, if the web site is based in Europe, it probably only has a hack for the European version of the RP-82. Even if you could get your player to be region-free, it would still only play NTSC discs. The RP-82 has no hardware for converting PAL to NTSC.
