TV, HD, DVD, Progressive...difference?
 

Im kinda new to the new HD technology and how progressive scanning works. My question is, what is the difference in the resolutions for all types of formats?

Someone told me that even HD is presented in two formats...720p and 1080 NTSC...what is the difference?

What is the best resolution for HD? for regular TV? for Digital TV?for DVDs? for Progressive DVD Players? So many formats...so many questions...can you guys give me the simple answers and the way to go?

You may want to read the FAQ at the top of the hardware area. It'll answer most of your questions.

That said, the person who told you about two different HDTV formats was partially right. There's 720p (progressive) and 1080i (interlaced). Neither is NTSC format, which is the old analog (current) format used in the U.S.
