Can newer JVC Progressive Scan DVD players do FADE Subtitles? (like Phantom Menace's)
Earlier models could not, since they had the Mediamatics I chip. But I am reading newer models can from some, but cannot from others.
What's the real scopp? |
Matt,
I'm getting a modded XV-S500 today, so I can take a look for you if you want. However, I don't own TPM (hated it) so I'll have to go out and rent a copy. Let me know which scene to look for in particular. |
I just went to Best Buy and popped my Episode I DVD into the XV-S500 and it DOES play the Fade subtitles. So that's good news.
But the question is, will it play them after the mod? The mod changes the firmware, so who knows??? Check Chapter 15 at 36:10. That's where there are some subtitle between the kid and some CGI alien. |
Matt,
I didn't have time to get the disc over the weekend, sorry. I'll try to get a hold of it in the next day or two. I'm also not sure if the firmware is necessarily changed or altered very much, as it's a hardware mod and everything else about the player seems to function as per normal. |
HKflix.com has reported that the Malata 520 will NOT play the fade subtitles. That is very distressing news. The newer JVC's will.
|
anything new to report on it? I just got a moded JVC 500 and it won't play them but I am wondering if a re-pressed version of TPM was put out that fixed the issue. Don't want to risk buying a new copy if it won't fix it.

Yikes. This may confirm my suspcion that modded JVC's go backwards with firmware and therefore cannot play the fade subs.
