Dolby Digital 5.1 with ps2
I just got my digital optical cable to use with my ps2...im wondering how to set it up..? how would i get DD with the dvds i watch....?

Connect the PS2 to a DD 5.1 surround sound receiver with the optical cable. Make sure DD is enabled in the PS2 setup menu and you should be good to go. What brand and model of receiver do you have?

Hook up the video RCA to your TV and make sure whatever mode you are using on your Receiver for PS2 has the digital input assigned to it. You should actually have everything running into your Receiver and a "Monitor Out" running to your TV, but that is your decision.

I have everything hooked up...the ps2 to the tv and the digital optical cable from the ps2 to the receiver...on the receiver it says the signal is digital, but whenever i play a dvd the Dolby Digital light does not come on...its only decoding in Prologic II..
what am i doing wrong?

Can only be two things
A) Reciever set-up
B) PS2 set-up
Your know the hardware is fine since it does output sound so it must be a set up issue. Just take you time and skim the audio set-up portions of both manuals and you'll find the problem or maybe post your Current reciever and setting's and maybe someone has the same set-up. It works fine with my Onkyo reciever after I set up the PS2 for 5.1 in the PS2 set up menu.

i did solve the problem by going into the ps2 setup menu (by pressing select on the controller) it turns out i had dolby digital and DTS turned off...after i turned both on...voila the DD lit up
