I want as large of a HDTV as I can get without going to a RPTV and I can't afford the large LCD's so I was wondering what the largest HD Widescreen tube TV that is available.

38"

There's two (that I know of, there might be more) - the RCA 38310 and the Loewe Aconda. The RCA is somewhere around $1500 - $2000 (depending on where you find it) and the Loewe is about 3x that price...

Thanks, I did some research on those 2 and it looks like the RCA is discontinued but the Loewe is available at my local Home Theatre Store. I was thinking Pioneer Elite so the Loewe is still in my price range, the TV I really want is the 60" XBR LCD by sony but 7000-8000 is out of range and the Loewe looks like my best choice.

The new improved 60" Grand WEGA (KF60XBR800) has a full list price of $4999. The old 60" Grand WEGA had fallen to $5999 full list, but no one is buying it anymore.

It might be discontinued (although I didn't think so) but I know you can still find the RCA at Circuit City, Best Buy, Sears, etc. The Loewe is definitely better though, if I had the cash I'd love to have one.

Just curious, why have you ruled out RPTV?

I am moving into an apartment and I will have to use it as my living room TV, I play too many Video Games and watch too many shows with logos or scroll bars so I am afraid of burn-in. When I purchase a house with a room I can dedicate to movies I will get a RPTV, but until then I need something that is large and HD but will not Burn-in if I play hours of Halo or leave CNN on the TV all night.

Be aware, the old Grand wega had an absolutely pathetic 267:1 contrast, and the new one is only about 30% better. For reference, a normal CRT based RPTV has a contrast of over 2000:1.

i will be getting the sony Grand VVega 50" for around 3,200.00 which is less than the 38" by Loewe, and you do not have to worry about burn in, go check out avsforum for some great pics of the new Grand VVega
